Who doesn't love a soft lip? Lip balms are the most important product of our daily skincare routine. Since ages, lip balm is being used as moisturizing products for our lips. Our lips skin is thin and delicate and doesn't have oil glands to keep our lips moisture locked, so our lips are always prone to dryness and chapping. Using lip balm acts as a protective barrier and locks the moisture protecting it from harsh weather.
There are varieties of lip balms available in the commercial markets but they contain chemical ingredients, so you can make your own lip balm with natural ingredients easily available in your kitchen.

Method 1: Beetroot lip balm using beetroot powder
You can use this if you have beetroot powder at home.
Ingredients:
- 1 teaspoon of beetroot powder
- 2 tablespoons Vaseline (petroleum jelly)
- Few drops of essential oil (lavender,
peppermint) if required for fragrance
How to prepare:
- If you don’t have beetroot powder, start by grating the peeled beetroot and then dehydrating it till it’s completely dried and brittle. Then blend the dried pieces in blender till you get fine powder without grains. Your beetroot powder is ready.
- Place a heatproof cup over a pan of shimmering water. Add Vaseline in the cup.
- Once the Vaseline is completely melted add beetroot powder and stir till it’s blended. You can add more beetroot powder if you prefer strong red tint.
- If you want fragrance in your lip balm you can add 4 to 5 drops of your choice essential oil.
- Pour the mixture to the lip balm container and allow it to cool and set at room temperature.
- Once the mixture solidifies, your lip balm is ready to use.
Method 2: Beetroot lip balm using beetroot juice
- 1 teaspoon of beetroot juice
- 2 tablespoons Vaseline (petroleum jelly)
- Few drops of essential oil (lavender, peppermint) if required for fragrance
How to prepare:
- Let's first prepare the beetroot juice. Wash the beetroot first to make sure to remove the dirt. Then peel it and chop into small pieces and then blend it in the mixer. Once you get a smooth puree, strain the juice using sieve or cheesecloth to extract only the juice. Now you have your beetroot juice ready to be used.
- Place a heatproof cup over a pan of shimmering water. Add Vaseline in the cup.
- Once the Vaseline is completely melted add your fresh beetroot juice and stir thoroughly till it completely mixed and you can see your Vaseline turn into pinkish.
- If you want fragrance in your lip balm you can add 4 to 5 drops of your choice essential oil.
- Pour the mixture to the lip balm container and allow it to cool and set at room temperature.
- Once the mixture solidifies, your lip balm is ready to use.
